Thanksgiving Recap

Happy Tuesday ya'll! Hope everyone is fully recovered from turkey day.  It was a nice break for me, I was home from Wednesday-Sunday and got lots accomplished during the time.  I had a few things that were on my "to do" list, and because I love to see a list with lines through it here we go...

-Dresser for BK's room
-Cross some more peeps off the Christmas shopping list
-Put Christmas decorations up
-Make a recipe off of pinterest (I'm an overachiever and made two!)
-Wrap presents to put under the tree
-Go to Michael's and stock up on craft supplies
-Organize under the kitchen sink
-Purchase those cool black hangers that I've been seeing on pinterest
-Make a yarn wreath

We also spent lots of quality time with Ashby's family from California, who were here for Thanksgiving. We had dinner together several times, went to see Lincoln (excellent movie btw!), brunch at Marty's, shopping with the boys on Black Friday.  Yes, I convinced not only Ashby, but his cousins Taylor and Michael to go Black Friday shopping with me (at the reasonable hour of 11:30am).  We hit up Best Buy, Bass Pro Shops (they wanted to go there), Ulta (they kept following me around like puppy dogs, I tried to loose them but it didn't work) and Target.  All in all it was a quick shopping trip but there were no lines and we got everything we needed! It's always so much fun when they are in town : )

Back to these recipes. Like every Thanksgiving I made Broccoli and Cheese Rice (recipe from my Grandmutti) but this year I also came across this amazing Roasted Butternut Squash salad recipe.  Of course I didn't take a picture of it because my food pics never come out good and sometimes it's weird to take pictures of your food.  Anyway, make this. You'll love it. I promise.

Also, I've come to the realization that the casseroles are where it's at for me on Thanksgiving. I don't even need the turkey or the ham. Who's with me?

I also decided that I needed something sweet, because I hadn't had nearly enough carbs for the weekend so I made these peanut butter cookies.  I used white chocolate chips. These are way too easy. I may be making another batch tonight.  Again, I didn't take a picture. Fun fact, I think these cookies make Bailey move around even more. I slammed a few down yesterday and she was moving ALL DAY LONG!

Here are some pictures from the weekend....

Bump Report: 30 Weeks

Happy Friday! Hooray for another weekend.  This week was a short week for me, with Veteran's Day being a holiday and a doctors appointment on Thursday.  I only had to go into work 3 times this week. Score!

Last weekend was fun filled for sure.  My parents got into town on Thursday around dinner time. Since I'm super organized (not) we had white chili in the crockpot and cornbread for dinner.  I'm only mentioning this because I ended up combining two recipes and was praying it would turn out ok, it did, thank god! We mapped out our weekend plans and then passed out. The guys were able to golf twice, we were lucky to have really nice weather. Mom and I got our shopping on, by that, I think we hit up every store in the Richmond area! We did get our nails done on Friday, and can I just say I'm super impressed that for the most part the color has stayed on and not chipped for an entire week now.

Some other highlights from the weekend:
-CineBistro at Stony Point is the best way to see a movie, better yet Skyfall. Ashby was super impressed, which means there may be more movie dates in my future. Hey a girl can dream right?!? Also, the movie was good but I still like Casino Royale the best.

- My mom can be friends with anyone. While shopping in Destination Maternity, she sat in front of the tv and be-friended a guy who is from Louisiana but went to UVA and is an Alabama fan.  Picture this scene: She is talking to this guy in front of the tv watching the football game, with her feet up on the coffee table, meanwhile here I am trying on clothes. Who is the pregnant one? Oh yeah, that's right, me! Love her though : )

- I'm loving the OPI color, You Don't Know Jaques.  It's the best greige out there. Also, the nail salon by my house is awesome.

- My dad is a very busy man.  He setup a home office on the dinning room table all weekend. He didn't work all weekend but I found him there several times.

- My mom and I make a pretty good coffee cake together.

- Bailey is going to be one spoiled little girl! Instead of getting a car at age 18, she will be receiving a new washer and dryer courtesy of my mom and dad.  The back story here is, my dad needed to do laundry and I told him to maybe wait to run the washer when we all left because it's so loud. He was appalled we had lived with the sound for 3 years. I kindly reminded him of a time when he and my mom were young, fabulous and broke! In the end a new washer and dryer were delivered to the house yesterday.  Thank you parents! You are way to generous.

- Ashby is getting really good and putting together furniture for Bailey's room.  We added a bookcase to the room over the weekend. Also, mom and I organized some of the items BK has accumulated so far and tried to make her room look a little prettier.

-The Retail Me Not app, saved my mom and I tons of money while we were shopping. Download it now.

Here are some pics that correspond with some of the items mentioned above:

New washer and dyer. Aren't they pretty!
BK's room.

Yesterday I had another doctors appointment.  Pretty standard. BK's heartrate was 169 bpm and I'm measuring right on track.  All good things! Side note: While the nurse was using the doppler to get her heartbeat, Bailey kicked. It was a crazy sound!

Now for the standard bump picture....

Can I just point out two things I'm not proud of here: The "Bourbon Bar" sign has been up since Ashby's birthday.  I like it there, so maybe I'll just change the words..."Give Thanks" or hey maybe just "Merry Christmas" at this point.  The orange towel under the beverage tub has also been there since the party.  Why, because I'm lazy. There is no ice or water in the tub, just koozies.  I need to get on those two things stat.

How far along? 30 Weeks

Total weight gain:  Let's see, I'll say anywhere between 15-20 lbs.  I think they should automatically subtract 5 lbs when they weigh you because of clothing and shoes. Seems like a no brainer to me.  Overall, I'm still doing really well with the weight gain. Nobody has harassed me about.

Maternity clothes?  Absolutely. Mom treated me to some new shirts which I'm pretty excited about. I'm also loving cords. They are so warm.

Stretch marks? No, but I think I may be getting the linea negra aka the black line.  The nurse told me she thought she could see a little of it forming. I promptly kicked her out of the room. Just kidding, I really wanted to though.

Sleep:  I sleep but it's not comfortable because of side sleeping.  I wake up with my hips killing me.

Best moment this week: New washer and dryer. This doesn't have to baby related does it?

Miss Anything? Being able to bend over and not having to squat down.

Food cravings: None this week.

Anything making you queasy or sick: Nope.

Labor Signs: No

Symptoms:  BK is a mover. She has begun getting more aggressive with her kicks. I can't sit down for long periods of time because she will start to move around like crazy. In general this has been a hard week for me pregnancy wise.  I'm feeling the weight of her, and all of her movements. My back and hips hurt. I pee all the time. I burp all the time. Although I've had it pretty easy, I'm getting to the "I'm over it" point.

Happy or Moody most of the time: Happy

Looking forward to: Ben and Cara staying with us for the night.  A small Phi Sig reunion is taking place in Richmond tonight. Who knows what shenanigans I will witness tonight, but I am excited to see everyone.  Also, excited to see Ashby's family from California, who will be here on Saturday night for the week. We get to celebrate Thanksgiving with them! Oh yeah, I'm also looking forward to eating my face off at Thanksgiving!

The baby is the size of:   A  head of cabbage.  She is about 15 to 16 inches long and weights between 2.5-3.8 lbs.  Her eyesight and brain are still continuing to develop. She is also strong enough to grasp a finger.

That's all I've got for today.  Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

Bump Report: 29 Weeks

Happy Thursday! What's this? Two posts in two weeks, I'm outta control. We've had a pretty busy/productive week getting BK's nursery put together.   I've been super productive since Hurricane Sandy gave me an opportunity to purge and give half of my belonging to Good Will.

Over the weekend I took a breastfeeding class offered through our hospital.  I went in knowing not too much, just that breastfeeding is good for the baby, good for you, and cost effective.  The teacher was great and went over lots of different aspects of breastfeeding. I saw tons of boobs on the videos she showed us, I'm boobed out.  I also called our insurance company and they will cover the cost of a breast pump for us which is amazing news and quite the cost saver.  Basically, I learned a lot and feel more confident about breastfeeding and selecting the right bottles, nipples and pacifiers for our baby.  We are scheduled to take two more classes Baby 101 and Infant CPR.  Ashby is super thrilled about spending an entire Saturday learning about babies but it must be done!

We also went to the movies and saw Flight on Saturday. It was pretty good. Much more drug related than I had anticipated but still a great movie.  We bought popcorn, duh, because movie theater popcorn is the bomb, I also brought along some raisinetes.  I'm a rebel.

Oh we also took stuff out of BK's room to the dump and then went to the Courthouse to get our early voting on.  There are perks to being pregnant and apparently it's a legit reason for needing to vote early.  I forced Ashby to vote also, he had never ever voted before. WHHHAATTT!! He also ended up stealing directions on how to vote as we left, it was unintentional but sorta funny.  In case you're wondering, here is how it's done in Hanover County....

All week long Ashby and I have been working to put together Bailey's nursery. We (I mean mostly Ashby) moved all the furniture out, painted, put the crib together, put the lamp together, hung the curtains. Here is a little sneak preview...

I love the way it's turning out so far. All we have left to do decoration wise is paint a dresser that we plan to use as the changing table and decide on some wall decorations.

My parents are spending the weekend with us and should get here sometime today. I'm so excited! I haven't seen them since August : ( The boys have tee times lined up and the girls have plenty of shopping errands to get done.  This is how legit our list is...

-Get nails done
-Go to DSW and any other store in the Short Pump area.
-Go to Trader Joe's to get PB for my Dad. (They don't have TJ's in Kentucky)
-Find a "going home" outfit for BK
-See Skyfall. Tickets bought. Holler.
-Eat white chili

There are one million other things but I can't find the email my Mom sent me that listed it all.

Now for the standard bump picture....

How far along? 29 Weeks

Total weight gain:  I hate this question.

Maternity clothes?  Absolutely.

Stretch marks? I don't think so.

Sleep:  I made a new slip cover for a body pillow that we had already. Mama's hips don't hurt anymore!

Best moment this week: Getting Bailey's room put together. Getting the curtain my Grandmutti made for the nursery. Receiving the cutest Baby shower invitation in the mail.

Miss Anything? Beer. I don't need the fancy stuff, Coors Light would be perfect.

Food cravings: None this week.

Anything making you queasy or sick: Nope.

Labor Signs: No

Symptoms:  Burps.

Bump Report: 28 Weeks (Third Trimester)

Hey there! Sorry for my lack of posts, I'm just lazy : )

Let's recap shall we, starting about 2 weeks ago (wow I really am slacker)....

Ashby and I got started on our registries. We ventured out early on a Sunday morning and hit up Babies R Us and Target. The first aisle we went down in Babies R Us was the bottle and breast pump aisle. We were overwhelmed to say the least.  I mean who knew there were so many options for a bottle. I felt relieved to get that done and it got us both excited about meeting Bailey.

As you can see, Ashby was really enjoying testing out the gliders...

Last Friday, I had to take my glucose test to see whether or not I had gestational diabetes. It's a standard test that they give everyone around 27 weeks, got the results back and I do not have diabetes! Woohoo! Basically, I had to drink a sunkist type drink that was super sugary, wait an hour, allow them to steal three tubes of blood and then be on my merry way. I went to starbucks after and treated myself. I couldn't eat before the test, so I was starvin' marvin.

Fast forward to last weekend when we celebrated Ashby's 30th birthday. I have to share my most favorite part of the party, the bourbon bar (pinterest worthy if you ask me).

We had friends and family over, I served chili and some apps. There were pictures of Ashby from when he was younger all over the house. It was really fun picking out the pictures and looking at his baby pictures specifically. We were both bald babies (fun fact: I was bald until I was two), so it will be interesting to see if this kid comes out with hair or not! For her sake, I sure hope so : )

Then Hurricane Sandy came. Honestly, she was a let down in our area given all the hype.  I do feel terrible for all the people up north and the damage that they had, they are for sure in our thoughts. Given that nobody knew how bad the storm was, my company allowed us to work from home on Monday and Tuesday. Which meant I did a little "work work" and a whole lot of "nesting". Seriously, there are 7 bags of crap in my trunk that need to go to goodwill.  I was able to check a lot of stuff off of my to do list which is a huge relief.

Last night my friend Victoria came over, I made nachos and we passed out candy. This is the first time since living in the townhouse that we passed candy out. Sad I know, but we figured given that we will be trick or treating next year with Bailey we should see just how many trick or treaters were in our hood. We ran out after 3 bags of candy, so next year I think if we get 4 we'll be good.  All of the halloweenies were so cute and very polite, especially with their parents in the background shouting "only one piece of candy, did you say thank you?" Yes, that will be me!

So that brings us to today where I'm at 28 weeks, the beginning of the third trimester, doctor appointments every two weeks, holidays and then meeting this little girl who is growing inside me.

Now for the standard bump picture....

How far along? 28 Weeks

Total weight gain:  The doctor confirmed I've only gained 13lbs.  I think it's a lie. Again, I'm not getting on the scale unless I have to.

Maternity clothes?  Yes. I'm also a huge fan of leggings. As long as I can find a long enough shirt to cover my large butt.

Stretch marks? Hard to tell, I think maybe there are some, but I'm not really sure. I just keep lathering on that lotion. Verdict, on the new lotion. Lame. It smells good but it's too thick.

Sleep:  Starting to feel a little bit more tired these days.  It started with the glucose test. Sleeping on my side sucks, it makes my hips hurt.

Best moment this week: Passing out candy last night. Getting shiz done in the house.

Miss Anything? Painting my toe nails. Sleeping on my stomach and on my back. Wine.

Food cravings: Back on sweets. Somebody should have taken Ashby's birthday cake home with them. I'm ashamed to say, I've sat with a fork and dove in, no plate needed : X

Anything making you queasy or sick: Nope.

Labor Signs: No

Symptoms:  Burps. Hardcore burps. Gross.

Belly Button in or out? In

Wedding rings on or off? on

Happy or Moody most of the time: Happy

Looking forward to: A visit from Ben and Cara and a visit from my parents. Selecting paint for the nursery  Getting the curtains my Grandma is making for the nursery.

The baby is the size of:   An eggplant. She is about 1.5-2.5 lbs and between 13.6-14.8 inches log. She has eyelashes (I hope she has a ton like her daddy) and her eyesight is developing. If you shine a light on my belly she may see it and start to move around.  She is packing on the pounds and developing her lungs at this point.

So there you have it, a recap of the last two weeks in the life of the Walton's. Fascinating stuff.  Happy November, that means it's turkey time!

Bump Report: 26 Weeks

Hello hello! 26 weeks today, time is flying by and I'm kinda happy about that : ) I'm ready to meet this little girl already!

We had so much fun with Ashby's family last weekend, tons of food, fun and laughing.  When we got there on Friday night we ended up eating dinner and then going to a bar. Yes, I thoroughly enjoyed a cup of coffee at the bar while everyone around me enjoyed their adult beverages. We also witnessed a fight and it took us 30 minutes to move through the crowd of people to use the bathroom at the bar. Honestly, I had a great time! We also had the opportunity to meet several of Michael (Ashby's cousins) friends, who are majority girls, he literally had 15 girls around him at one time. It was hilarious!

The weather was perfect for football on Saturday. We started the day by touring Michael's fraternity (Sig Ep) house. It is currently being built and they are all supposed to move in within two weeks. The place was huge!

Virginia Tech ended up wining the game, which made all of us very happy, and we ended up tailgating until about 6pm! Ashby and I got home and hung out for a little, then went back out to celebrate Bambi's birthday.

So there is a little weekend recap for ya! This weekend Ashby and I are planning to work in baby girl's nursery. We have to remove some furniture, sort through clothes in the closet, and organize important paperwork/documents.  I know this sounds super fun.... Honestly though, I've been struggling with deciding on the decor for the nursery and a blank space will be a lot easier to work with then what I've got now!

Now for the standard bump picture....

How far along? 26 Weeks

Total weight gain:  So earlier this week I got on the scale. Big mistake, it's not that it's a lot, I just don't think I can look as the numbers begin to climb. 13lbs so far.

Maternity clothes?  Maternity bottoms all the time, or stretchy pants.  I have several maternity shirts and am still able to wear some of my normal shirts.  Luckily it's starting to get cooler and I can wear some of my bigger sweaters/wraps.

Stretch marks? I finally got new cream! There are two stories related to this new cream. 1) I was on the phone with my Mom while getting the cream. She informed me that she never used cream and never got stretch marks and people that she does know, that did use cream, have stretch marks.  Moral of the story: She thinks I don't need it. 2) I went to use my lotion on Tuesday morning and I could not get the thing open. Ashby tried, I tried, Ashby tried again. Nothing. I ended up taking a screw driver to the top that afternoon. I mean really, how long have I been looking forward to getting new cream and then I can't get the thing opened. Lame. P.S. It smells delish. It's the Gud brand from Burts Bee.

Sleep:  Yeah, it's just not comfortable.

Best moment this week: Going to pick up Bailey's crib (thank you parentals) and going out to eat at Firebirds. We had a scratch off coupon (the kind they have to scratch for you once you get there), that ended up being $25 off of meal. Winning.

Miss Anything? Wearing my non-maternity jeans. Sleeping on my stomach.

Food cravings: Randomly I have been wanting homestyle cooking this week. I had a bbq meatloaf, sweet potatoes and kale earlier this week and a pot roast in the crockpot. The bbq meatloaf was super good, I gave myself a pat of the back (like 5 times) and made Ashby pat me on my back.

Anything making you queasy or sick: Nope.

Labor Signs: No

Symptoms:  I've never had indigestion before, but I feel like I have it now.  Since this weekend all I've been doing is burping.  Gross.  I think it have it pegged to fried food (I've been partaking in a little too much recently) and coffee. I'm not giving up coffee, I'd rather burp all day then go without.

Belly Button in or out? In and I hope it stays that way.

Wedding rings on or off? on

Happy or Moody most of the time: Excited but a little stressed with my to do list.

Looking forward to:  Cleaning out the nursery this weekend and getting things organized in Casa de Walton. Ashby's 30th birthday.

The baby is the size of:   An english cucumber (weight wise/length wise), I'd post a pic of the cucumber but it just looks wrong. Also, her ears are fully developed and she is more sensitive to sound now, meaning she can now hear our voices.

This was a long one wasn't it?! Thanks for hanging in there until the end! Enjoy your Friday and your weekend!

Bump Report: 25 Weeks

Happy Friday! We are leaving today for a weekend in Blacksburg, VA with Ashby's family and are pretty excited about it. Hopefully VT will get their act together and win against Duke. Either way the tailgate will still go on, and I'm very excited about that!

So instead of packing I'm catching up on Real Housewives of New York : ) My priorities are definitely in the right place.

Ashby has not been thrilled taking these pictures of me, he takes like 10 pictures and then I get a whole bunch of nonsense ones that I can't use. However, you can still see little Bailey is growing by the day.

How far along? 25 Weeks

Total weight gain:  I'm sure it's over 10lbs by now. I'll let you know the next time the doctor weighs me!

Maternity clothes?  Yes. I'm on the hunt for some skinny jeans and then I think my pregnancy wardrobe will be complete.

Stretch marks? None yet. This reminds me I need to get some new cream.

Sleep:  Sleeping has become uncomfortable. I'm fine on the couch but in bed, I sleep with 3 pillows and rotate - side, back (not completely flat), other side, wake up at 12:50ish AM for a potty break, repeat.

Best moment this week: Getting to see David and Kate (who flew in from CA), cooler weather and football. All of this hasn't happened yet, but it will in a few short hours.

Miss Anything? Alcohol. I really do sound like an alcoholic here. I had a not so awesome day earlier this week, and went straight to Kroger to get some Alcohol Free Red Wine (grape juice but in a fancy bottle), while Ashby was drinking real wine. Confession- I took a sip of his and felt like I was in high school. It tasted plain nasty. So maybe I just miss the thought of alcohol?

Food cravings: Anything sweet. There is candy in the office leftover from the conference in CA. Yeah, I totally had to limit myself today. Baby Ruths are delicious.

Anything making you queasy or sick: Sometimes coffee makes me a little queasy but I stick it out because honestly it's pumpkin latte season people.

Labor Signs: No

Symptoms:  Growing belly and terrible acne. It's come back with a vengeance : (

Belly Button in or out? In and I hope it stays that way.

Wedding rings on or off? on

Happy or Moody most of the time: Excited. I just can't wait to meet Baby Bailey.

Looking forward to:  Picking up the crib next week and getting started on this nursery. I'm also planning a party for Ashby's 30th Birthday!

The baby is the size of:  rutabaga or cauliflower. I don't like either of those items but I'm happy she is growing and showing love by moving around lots.

So that''s all I've got for today. Hope everyone has a fantastic weekend!

Bump Report: 24 Weeks

Hello! I know I'm sorry I told you all I would blog last week and then I didn't, please forgive me! I'm finally settling back into the swing of things now that all this traveling is over. The traveling sort of derailed all the good work I was doing, like working out and not eating everything that I wanted to. Yes, I've succumb to the fact that this bump is only getting bigger!

Last week my aunt Marfi came to visit us for the weekend and we got a few things accomplished.  I wanted to go to Babies R Us and scope out strollers and car seats, however, both of the stores in the area were having "moving sales" and they are consolidating into a new store that opens Oct 12th. Awesome timing, even more awesome that I didn't know about these sales, so by the time I got there they had some lame clothing left and a whole bunch of shelving. Neither of which were on my list. We also went to Pottery Barn Kids and looked at a crib I was interested in as well as some bedding.  Sprinkled into the trip were flu shots for both Ashby and I (yipee), eating out (I didn't forget how to cook, I just don't like to), maternity clothes shopping (Thank you Marfi) and cat time with Abby and Lloyd. Marfi and I looked at all my fabric swatches and compared it with a nursery picture out of the PB Kids magazine that I like. So far we know the nursery will be pink and white and the crib has been purchased (thank you Grandparents/Rick and Kelley/Mom and Dad).  I'll do a follow up post on nursery ideas next week. If you follow me on pinterest you know I've pinned about every fabric available in the world this past week.

Ashby and I don't have much on tap for this weekend, hopefully a little organization and cleaning out the nursery.  I need a blank slate to work with! Ashby has also given me a new name when it comes to the nursery..."Momzilla". I have no idea why?!?

This are all my nursery ideas that I taped up to the wall. I'm not crazy, I just needed a visual.

In the past two weeks my small bump has turned into a larger bump....

Also, I'm sure most of you know baby girls name but in case you do not it is Bailey Kate Walton.

How far along? 24 Weeks

Total weight gain:  10 lbs. I only know this because I went to the doctor last week.

Maternity clothes?  I'm now into maternity clothes. Still use bella bands occasionally but I can't really zip my pants up much. Work wear maternity clothes are the best. Why can't I wear them all the time? I had to go ahead and take the plunge with the maternity clothes because things were starting to feel a little too tight, causing Bailey to move around a lot!

Stretch marks? None yet. Almost done with stinky burts bees lotion. My next option is body shop.

Sleep:  Last weekend I was staying up until 11pm. Don't worry, it's caught up with me, I fell asleep at 9 last night. It just depends on the day.

Best moment this week: The crib getting purchased. First step in designing her nursery.

Miss Anything? Working out hard like I use to. I don't have the energy and can't hold my bladder long enough. I'm trying to keep up with strength training and walking but it's frustrating because I feel like I'm not accomplishing anything.

Food cravings: Anything sweet. There is candy in the office leftover from the conference in CA. Yeah, I totally had to limit myself today. Baby Ruths are delicious.

Anything making you queasy or sick: No.

Labor Signs: No

Symptoms:  Same as the last post, lots of potty breaks and the fact that she is very active at night.

Belly Button in or out? In and I hope it stays that way.

Wedding rings on or off? on

Happy or Moody most of the time: Happy : )

Looking forward to:  Decorating the nursery. Fall weather.

The baby is the size of:  Cantaloupe. Holy crap that's big.

That's all I've got for tonight. Time to finish my McFlurry and pass out on the couch. Here is a little song to get your weekend going. I like to change the words up..."Come on Bailey let the good times roll", or my personal fav "Come on moo moo let the good times roll". Ashby and I call Lloyd moo moo which could result in Bailey thinking cats say "moo" instead of "meow". Cat people problems. Enjoy!

Warning: This is a rap video., but has a really cool white guy in it wearing Ashby's sweatshirt.  That is all.
